Purpose This study aimed to investigate factors affecting prevention performance of catheter-associated urinary tract infection (CAUTI) among long-term care hospital nurses.
Methods: The participants were 162 nurses in 11 long-term care hospitals. Data were collected from May 21 to June 4, 2021, using structured questionnaires. The collected data were analyzed with an independent t-test, Mann-Whitney U test, a one-way ANOVA, Pearson’s correlation, and multiple regression analysis. All analyses were performed using SPSS/WIN 26.0.
Results: The factors influencing the prevention performance of CAUTI were formal learning (β=.22, p=.003) and prevention knowledge on CAUTI (β=.17, p=.029). These variables explained 13% of the prevention performance of CAUTI.
Conclusion: In this study, it is necessary for long-term care hospitals to develop infection prevention educational programs for CAUTI based on nursing evidence and ensure that nurses apply the knowledge obtained through these educational programs.
Purpose The purpose of this study was to identify the mediating effect of the nursing work environment in the relationship between job embeddedness and turnover intention of nurses working in long term care hospital.
Methods: The study was conducted with 183 nurses working in long term care hospitals.
Results: There were significant negative relationships between job embeddedness and turnover intentions. There were significant positive relationships between job embeddedness and nursing work environment. Nursing work environment had a partial mediation effect in job embeddedness and turnover intentions.
Conclusion: In this study, the nursing work environment had a partial mediated effect in the relationship between job embeddedness and turnover. In order to reduce turnover intention of nurses working in long term care hospital, it is necessary to improve job embeddedness and the nursing work environment.

PURPOSE The purpose of this study was to identify the importance, performance and rates of nurses' performance of nursing interventions in long-term care hospitals. METHODS A cross-sectional descriptive study was used and data were collected in 2015. Participants were 174 clinical nurses working in 14 long-term care hospitals. The collected data were analyzed using the SPSS/WIN 18.0. RESULTS The nurses' perceived importance of nursing interventions was 4.48±0.51, and the degree of nursing intervention performance in long-term care hospitals was 3.97±1.07 out of 5. The rates of nursing interventions performed by nurses ranged from 33.9% to 99.4% with an average of 82.5%. There were statistically significant positive correlations among perceived importance, performance in hospitals, and rates for nurses' performance of nursing interventions (p<.001). CONCLUSION The results indicate that interventions with a high degree of importance and performance could be the core nursing interventions in long-term care hospitals. These core nursing interventions should be included in education for nurses. These findings can be used in developing realistic guidelines and effective strategies for nurses and administrators to improve the quality of nursing and the status of nursing professionals in long-term care hospitals.

PURPOSE The purpose of this study was to examine trends in number of nursing staff and skill mix. METHODS Nursing staff and skill mix were measured using the number of nursing staff including nurse aids and registered nurses per bed. Descriptive and panel data regression analyses were conducted using data on long-term care hospitals which included yearly series data from 2006 to 2010 for 119 hospitals. RESULTS The number of nursing staff per bed increased significantly but percentage of registered nurses decreased significantly from 2007 to 2010. The regression model explained this variation as much as 35% and 44%. CONCLUSION The results showed that in long-term care hospitals there were more nurse aids employed instead of registered nurses after the implemention of differentiated inpatient nursing fees. Thus clarifying the job descriptions for nurses and nurse aids is needed and appropriate hospital incentive policies should be implemented.

PURPOSE This study was done to explore factors related to amount of service use for elders with long-term care needs. METHODS A descriptive-correlation design was used. The sample included 259 elders and their primary caregivers who had cared for the elders for at least 6 months. Data on long-term care need assessment, service use and interviews with primary caregivers were analyzed. RESULTS There was no significant relationship between the sociodemographic characteristics and the amount of services use. Amount of service use differed significantly by Long-term care classification. The mean scores for class 1, 2 and 3 were 22.68, 21.47 and 17.87 days respectively. Primary caregiver relationship with the elders and the number of family-friend helpers were also significant. Multivariate regression analysis showed that gender, marital status, activities of daily living, cognitive impairment, and secondary caregiver support explained 17% of the total variance of service use among these elders (F=3.50, p<.001). CONCLUSION The results of this study indicate that critical factors including secondary caregiver support and individual background, and other functional dependencies except for physical function should be considered in accurately predicting the amount of service use for community dwelling elders with long-term care needs.
