Development of Emotional Labor Measurement Tool for Hospital Nurses

PURPOSE
The study was done to analyze attributes of emotional labor experienced by clinical nurses working in domestic hospitals and to develop tools for measurement.
METHODS
The concept of nurse emotional labor was verified through concept analysis based on Hybrid model. The preliminary Nurse Emotional Labor Scale were examined for content validity, reliability and validity. The scale was verified with 500 nurses working in general hospitals located in Kangwon-do.
RESULTS
Attributes of the nurse emotional labor concept were derived from three types: surface type, internalize type and control behaviors and identified as having six constitutive factors: conscious surface behaviors, casual behaviors, empathy effort, repress, solve and endure. The results of the construct validity test of the tool showed 8 factors. The Nurse Emotional Labor Measurement Tool had a significant correlation (r=.35, p < .001) with the Scale of Morris & Felman in result of criterion-related validity. And the internal consistency reliability Cronbach's α coefficient was .93.
CONCLUSION
The development process showed that to accurately describe emotional labor of nurses, it is necessary to consider not only quantitative aspects but also qualitative aspects and content aspects.

Reliability and Validity of the Korean Version of Nurses' Attitudes and Preparedness towards Delegation

PURPOSE
The purpose of this study was to develop and test the validity and reliability of the Korean version of nurses' attitudes toward delegation and preparedness to delegate (APD).
METHODS
The Korean version of APD was developed through forward-backward translation methods. Internal consistency reliability, criterion validity, and construct validity using exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis were conducted using IBM SPSS Statistics 19 and AMOS 20.0. Survey data were collected from 161 nurses working in 2 general hospitals.
RESULTS
The Korean version of APD showed Cronbach's alphas of .68 and .85. Factor loadings of the 8 attitude items on the 3 subscales ranged from .60 to .86 and the 15 preparedness items on the 4 subscales ranged from .47 to .90. The model of 3 subscales for the Korean nurses' attitude toward delegation and the model of 4 subscales for the Korean nurses' preparedness to delegate were both validated by confirmatory factor analysis(NC<3, CFI>.90, RMSEA<.10). Criterion validity compared to job satisfaction showed significant correlation.
CONCLUSION
The findings of this study demonstrate that this modified Korean version of APD is applicable for measuring Korean nurses' attitude toward delegation and preparedness to delegate.

Development and Evaluation of Job Stress Measurement Tool for Infection Control Nurses

PURPOSE
The purpose of this study was to develop and evaluate a tool to measure job stress related to occupational characteristics of infection control nurses.
METHODS
The tool was developed through the steps of literature reviews, preparatory questions, and a test of validity and confidence. The participants were 212 infection control nurses from 145 Korean hospitals. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Cronbach's alpha coefficients, item analysis, factor analysis.
RESULTS
Through factor analysis, 38 items in four domains and nine factors were derived. The Cronbach's alpha coefficient of the final instrument was .95.
CONCLUSION
The results of this study indicate that the measurement tool is reliable and valid to measure the job stress of infection control nurses.
