PURPOSE
This study was done to analyze the trend of theory application in articles published in the Journal of Korean Academy of Nursing Administration (JKANA) over the last 10 years. METHODS Four hundred and eighty-five articles were reviewed to determine the scope of theory-applied research. General characteristics, study design and keywords classification by nursing meta-paradigm were analyzed using established analysis framework. RESULTS Twenty-four articles (4.9%) were identified as theory-applied research publications. More than half of the articles (54.2%) stated that a theoretical framework was used; the number of theories used in the 24 articles was 27 including nine nursing theories. The majority of the studies were conducted in hospital settings. In the keyword classification by nursing meta-paradigm, 28 environment-related keywords were identified but only 7 keywords were related to health. CONCLUSION The results show that theory application in Korean nursing administration research is very limited. It is necessary to create a positive educational environment for graduate students to learn about nursing theories as well as theories from other disciplines. PURPOSE
This study was done to investigate the relationship of ethical leadership to perceived organizational support and organizational commitment, and explored the mediating role of perceived organizational support in ethical leadership and organizational commitment of nurse. METHOD Data were collected from 256 nurses in one city. Data from the completed questionnaires was analyzed with the SPSSWIN and AMOS programs. RESULT Ethical leadership related positively to perceived organizational support and organizational commitment. There was also a positive relationship between perceived organizational support and organizational commitment. It was found that perceived organizational support showed a partial mediating role between relationship of ethical leadership and organizational commitment. CONCLUSION The results suggest that positive effects in developing organizational commitment in nurses occur when nurse administrators are concerned about ethical leadership and perceived organizational support. PURPOSE
This study was to investigate the relationship among emotional intelligence, self-efficacy and job stress of nurses. METHOD Data was collected from convenient sample of 265 nurses who work for a university hospital in a city. The Questionnaire measured the level of emotional intelligence, self-efficacy and job stress of nurses. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, scheffe' test, pearson's correlation coefficient and hierarchical multiple regression. RESULT The mean score of emotional intelligence was 3.41(+/-.37), self-efficacy was 3.27(+/-.45) and job stress was 3.35(+/-.65). There were significant differences on self-efficacy according to age, marital status and education level. And there were significant differences on job stress according to age, working unit. It was a significant positive correlation between emotional intelligence and self-efficacy. The emotional intelligence and self-efficacy were significantly negative correlation with job stress. The emotional intelligence explained 24.8% of self-efficacy and 1.9% of job stress and self-efficacy explained 2.7% of job stress. And the self-efficacy was showed a mediate variable between emotional intelligence and job stress. CONCLUSION To decrease job stress, nursing managers ought to develop the emotional intelligence and self-efficacy of nurses, reinforce as a mediating role between emotional intelligence and job stress.
