Purpose This study examined the influence of patient safety management systems, leadership, and communication types on nurses’ patient safety management activities. Methods Participants were 237 nurses who has been working in medical institutes for over 6 months. Online self-report questionnaires were conducted. Measures included patient safety management systems, transformational leadership, authentic leadership, communication types, and patient safety management activities. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson’s correlation coefficients, and multiple regression with SPSS/WIN 24.0. Results According to the general characteristics, patient safety management activities were higher among nurses who were female (t=4.27, p<.001), charge nurses (t=-2.41, p=.016), had healthcare accreditation experience (t=4.36, p<.001), and worked in nursing units implementing a team nursing method (F=6.26, p=.002) with more than 30 nurses (F=6.28, p=.043). Female nurses (β=.16, p=.015) with high authentic leadership (β=.21, p=.002), low informal communication (β=-.21, p=.004), and high downward communication (β=.19, p=.009) showed higher patient safety management activities. The models' explanatory power was 21.0%. Conclusion Based on the results of this study, further research is needed to investigate the differences in patient safety management activities according to gender, the number of nurses per ward, and the nursing delivery system. Lowering informal communication and strengthening authentic leadership and downward communication may improve nurses’ patient safety management activities.
Purpose This study aimed to identify the factors influencing job satisfaction among nurses working in integrated nursing care wards. Methods The study participants were 196 nurses working in integrated nursing care wards at four general hospitals and one tertiary hospital. Data were collected using structured questionnaires from April 11 to 25, 2022, through an online survey. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson correlation, and stepwise multiple regression with SPSS/WIN 26.0. Results The factors influencing job satisfaction of participants were team structure (β=.32, p<.001), role conflict regarding nursing practice (β=-.24, p<.001), mutual support (β=.23, p<.001), master's degree or higher(β=.16, p=.004), and spousal presence (β=.15, p=.005). Conclusion The findings of this study suggest that the tasks and roles of team members should be clarified, and a supportive team culture of mutual cooperation should be fostered to improve the job satisfaction of nurses working in the integrated nursing ward. In addition, it is necessary to reduce role conflict by providing support focused on allocating tasks that can strengthen the role of professional nurses.

Purpose This study aimed to examine the influence of nurses’ general and job-related characteristics, nursing practice environment, and grit on the intent to stay of operating room nurses. Methods This descriptive study focused on 198 operating room nurses employed in university hospitals at Busan metropolitan city and Kyungnam district, with a minimum of six months of experience in the operating room. Data were collected between February 16, 2022 and May 25, 2022, using self-report questionnaires and analyzed using SPSS 21.0. Results The average of operating room nurses' intent to stay was 5.01, indicating a high intent to stay. Positive correlations were found between grit(r=.58, p<.001) and nursing practice environment(r=.36, p<.001) with intent to stay. Grit(β=.52, p<.001) and nursing practice environment(β=.13, p=.035) significantly influenced the intent to stay and explained 35% of the variance in the intent to stay. Conclusion The findings of this study suggest that strengthening nurses’ grit and providing a healthy practice environment may help increase their intent to stay. Developing a grit-enhancing program, especially one that fosters enthusiasm and perseverance toward long-term goals, can improve operating room nurses’ psychological resources and enhance their willingness to stay.

PURPOSE The purpose of this study was to identify the levels of customer orientation in nurses whose work experience was between 1 and 5 years and to examine factors associated with customer orientation and nursing productivity. METHODS For this descriptive correlational study, nurses (N=164) were recruited from a University Hospital in B city, from November 1 to 23, 2012. Questionnaires included measures of customer orientation, nursing productivity, organizational commitment, job stress, and turnover intention. Data were analysed with the SPSS/WIN 18.0 program using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient, and stepwise multiple regression. RESULTS The mean age of participants was 25 years, 96% were single, and 54.9% had a bachelor degree. Organizational commitment (beta=.387) and job stress (beta=.280) significantly explained the variance in customer orientation (R2=15.8). Customer orientation (beta=.479), education level (beta=.196), and turnover intention (beta=-.184) significantly explained the variance in nursing productivity (R2=35.3). Customer orientation was the most important factor in explaining the variance in the nursing productivity. CONCLUSION This study highlighted the relationship between customer orientation and nursing productivity. Improving the customer orientation could result in increasing nursing productivity. Future managerial intervention to improve customer orientation is warranted.

PURPOSE The purpose of this study was to explore the current status of education for nursing management in Korea. METHODS A descriptive study was done using a questionnaire developed by the investigators. The data were collected by survey from 96 out of 129 nursing schools, between December 2010 and February 2011. RESULTS For 22.9% of nursing schools, there was no faculty for nursing management. The credits and subjects included in nursing management varied among the nursing schools. Lectures in subjects related to nursing management were given not only by nursing management faculty but also by faculty with other majors. There were more faculty and credits for nursing management courses in 4-year nursing schools than in 3-year schools. CONCLUSION To improve the quality of education in nursing management, there is a need to standardized courses and provide nursing faculty who have majored in nursing management.

PURPOSE The purpose of this study was to identify the major trends of research in the Journal of Korean Nursing Administration from 2007 to 2009. METHOD Research designs, participants, research domains, and key words were analyzed from the Journal of Korean Nursing Administration. RESULTS Job satisfaction, organizational commitment, job stress, turnover intention, nursing performance, self-efficiency, leadership, empowerment, nursing informatics, and quality control were the major key words commonly listed in the journal articles. Of the research in the Nursing Administration Journal, quantitative methods were used in 94.5% of the research studies and qualitative methods in only 5.5%. The major participants in the research were nurses, nurse managers, and patients. Statistical methods like ANOVA, correlation, t-test, regression, chi-square test, LISREL were the dominant method of analysis used in the research. The primary domains in the journal articles were directing, organizing, control, planning, and informatics. CONCLUSION Through this study, the trend of research in nursing administration can be identified. We recommend that collaboration, nurse work environment, evidence-based practice, scheduling, coaching, patient falls and safety, and positive culture should be included as topics for the future research.

PURPOSE The purpose of this study was to identify the predictors of clinical competence in new graduate nurses. METHODS The subjects of this study were 238 nurses at 13 general hospitals who have had less than 12 months of nursing experience. The data were collected by structured questionnaire from August 5 to August 31 of 2009 and analyzed by the SPSS Win 12.0 program. RESULTS The total mean score for clinical competence was 181.05+/-15.17, critical thinking disposition was 94.65+/-8.12, and practice environment was 41.00+/-5.55. There were significant differences of clinical competence according to the GPA (t=-3.58, p<.001), the number of beds in the hospital (t=-3.22, p=.001), instruction by preceptor (t=-2.32, p=.021), and previous experience of clinical practice in the hospital (t=-2.21, p=.028). Additionally, critical thinking disposition and practice environment were positively correlated to clinical competence (r=.50, p<.001; r=.20, p=.002). In multivariate approach, predictors included in this study explained 43% of variance in clinical competence. Significant predictors of clinical competence were critical thinking disposition (beta=.50, p<.001), practice environment (beta=.14, p=.012), and working duration (beta=.13, p=.018). CONCLUSIONS Based on these findings, it is needed that providing supportive practice environment and developing curriculum for enhancing the critical thinking disposition to improve the clinical competence in new graduate nurses.
