Development and Evaluation of Nursing Work Environment Scale of Clinical Nurses
Yeong Ju Ko, Gwi-Ryung Son Hong
J Korean Acad Nurs Adm 2022;28(5):576-585.   Published online December 31, 2022
DOI: https://doi.org/10.11111/jkana.2022.28.5.576
Purpose
This study aimed to develop a nursing work environment scale for clinical nurses and to verify its validity and reliability. Methods: The initial items comprised individual interviews with eleven clinical nurses. The content validity of the initial items was evaluated twice by nine experts, while 37 preliminary items were reviewed through pilot tests with 20 nurses and cognitive interviews with five nurses. The survey data were collected from 353 clinical nurses working at general hospitals. Results: In the exploratory factor analysis, the number of factors was determined through parallel analysis, scree test, and cumulative variance ratio. Consequently, 23 items and three factors were thus composed, yielding a total cumulative variance ratio of 91.3%. The finalized 20 items of the final three factors were subjected to a confirmatory factor analysis, which led to the validation of the three subscales model. The three sub-factors were composed of nurse manager competency, nurse safety management system, and a nurse support system. Conclusion: This scale is expected to be useful for evaluating the nursing work environment of clinical nurses by verifying its reliability and validity through various methods.

Validity and Reliability of a Service Orientation Scale for Health Care Organization
Myung Ha Lee, Sook Kyoung Park, Ok Joo Lee
J Korean Acad Nurs Adm 2014;20(4):362-372.   Published online September 30, 2014
DOI: https://doi.org/10.11111/jkana.2014.20.4.362
PURPOSE
The purpose of this research was to develop and test the validity and reliability of the Service Orientation Scale for Health Care Organization.
METHODS
The Service Orientation Scale for Health Care Organization, SERV*OR, was developed through forward-backward translation methods. Internal consistency and reliability, construct and criterion validity were calculated using SPSS Statistics WIN 17.0. Survey data were collected from 283 clinical nurses in a general hospital in J province.
RESULTS
The Service Orientation Scale for Health Care Organization showed reliable internal consistency with Cronbach's alpha's for the total scale ranging from .85~.91. Factor loading of the 30 items on four sub-scales ranged from .67~.83. The sub scales were named service leadership, service system, customer focus, and service control. Item convergent and discriminant validity were also established for the Service Orientation Scale for Health Care Organization. Criterion validity showed a significant correlation with customer orientation.
CONCLUSION
The findings of the study demonstrate that the Service Orientation Scale for Health Care Organization has satisfactory construct and criterion validity, and reliability and can be used to measure service orientation.

PURPOSE
This study was done to develop a web-based diagnostic evaluation program for nurses to prevent malpractice liability.
METHODS
A comprehensive review of the literature and 9 specialist interviews were used to search for learning goals and content for protection for nurses from malpractice. Data on needs for learning goals were collected from 56 hospital nurses who agreed to complete a self-report questionnaire. The diagnostic program was evaluated between September 2008 and August 2009 by 35 new hospital nurses using an application of the web-based program evaluation tools by Chung (2000).
RESULTS
A comprehensive review of the literature and interviews were used to search for learning goals and content. The evaluation program was composed of the 73 questions for diagnostic evaluation under 23 learning goals and 6 grand learning goals which included the principles of law, patient's rights, legal responsibility, patient's safety, regulation on nursing practice and patient's rights protection. Evaluation of the program showed that the mean for program evaluation was 3.43 (SD=.37).
CONCLUSION
This diagnostic evaluation program could be an efficient method for teachers and learners to improve nurses' behavior in protecting the patient's rights and preventing malpractice claims.
