Purpose This study aimed to examine the moderating effect of calling on the relationship between post-traumatic stress and turnover intention among nurses caring for COVID-19 patients. Methods Data were collected from 151 nurses caring for COVID-19 patients at three university hospitals located in D City. Participants completed selfreported online surveys on post-traumatic stress (IES-R-K), calling (CVQ-R), and turnover intention. Descriptive statistics, t-tests, one-way ANOVA, Scheffé test, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and hierarchical multiple regression were performed using SPSS 25.0. Results The mean scores of post-traumatic stress, calling, and turnover intention were 0.83±0.70, 1.51±0.71, and 2.89±1.10, respectively. Post-traumatic stress had positive correlations with calling (r=.20, p=.011) and turnover intention (r=.29, p=.001), whereas calling had a negative correlation with calling and turnover intention (r=-.17, p=.029). Calling had a moderating effect in the relationship between post-traumatic stress and turnover intention (β=-.16, p=.032). Conclusion Calling has a moderating effect on the relationship between post-traumatic stress and turnover intention. Therefore, developing and implementing a program is necessary to strengthen nurses' perceptions of calling to prevent nurses with post-traumatic stress from leaving their jobs.
Purpose This study aimed to understand the relationships between depression, post-traumatic stress, job demands, and social and organizational support among nurses working at general hospitals during the COVID-19 pandemic and to identify the factors influencing depression. Methods Data were collected from 240 nurses using a self-reported questionnaire between April 28 and May 7, 2023. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, an independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, Scheffé’s test, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and multiple regression. Results The mean scores for depression and post-traumatic stress were 15.49 and 17.90, respectively. Approximately 43% nurses experienced depression. Depression was positively related to job demands and post-traumatic stress and negatively related to social and organizational support. Multiple regression showed that post-traumatic stress (β=.33, p<.001), social support (β=-.30, p<.001), and job demands (β=.21, p<.001) explained 26.4% of the variance for nurses’ depression. Conclusion These findings indicate that efforts are needed to mitigate depression and post traumatic stress among nurses, even after the COVID-19 pandemic. Programs that can enhance social support and reduce post-traumatic stress and job demands are needed to prevent and decrease depression. In particular, hospitals and the government must prepare for national disasters, such as new infectious diseases, to reduce job demands.
Purpose This study aimed to examine the differences in COVID-19 work-related characteristics, workload, anxiety, stress, and burnout between nurses working in the COVID-19 designated units and those in the general units caring for both COVID-19 and non-COVID-19 patients and to identify factors related to burnout in these two nurse groups. Methods The study was conducted using data from 192 nurses in the COVID-19 designated units and 340 nurses in the general units from two general hospitals. The data were collected using self-report, structured questionnaires.
Independent t-test, chi-squared test, and logistic regression analysis were performed. Results There were no significant differences observed in workload and burnout between the two groups. For nurses in the general units, workload, stress, adequacy of the number of patients assigned, and the experience of temporary, floating staff were significant factors associated with burnout, while only clinical experience in the current unit was a significant factor among those in the COVID-19 units. Conclusion Findings indicate significant differences in factors related to burnout between the two nurse groups. Thus, substantial support and strategies tailored to the working environments of each nursing unit are required to prevent burnout among nurses caring for COVID-19 patients.

Purpose This study aims to identify the factors-along the lines of fatigue, nursing professionalism, and the work environment-that affect the nursing of COVID-19 patients by nurses at a designated COVID-19 hospital in Korea. Methods Data were collected from March 7 to March 31, 2022 via structured questionnaires submitted by 162 nurses, and analyzed using t-test, ANOVA, Scheffé test, Pearson correlation, and hierarchical regression analysis. Results In model 1, the variables among the general characteristics which significantly affect nursing intention are “6 months to less than 1 year of nursing experience for severe COVID-19 patients” (β=.29, p=.001), “having the volition to provide nursing support for future COVID-19 patients” (β=0.28, p<.001), and the “intention according to the hospital situation”(β=.35, p<.001). In model 2, fatigue (β=-.18, p=.007) and nursing professionalism (β=.43, p<.001) affect nursing intention. The total explanatory power of Model 2 is 47.0% (F=16.93, p<.001, R2 =.47). Conclusion To increase nursing intention for COVID-19 patients, intervention strategies should reduce nurses’ fatigue and introduce competency-strengthening programs as to improve nursing professionalism.

Purpose This study aimed to confirm the mediating effect of social responsibility on the relationship between nurses' stress and burnout from coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in tertiary general hospitals. Methods For this descriptive cross-sectional study, online survey data from 193 nurses in three tertiary general hospitals were analyzed. Data were collected from March 30 to April 4, 2021. The following statistical analysis were conducted: t-test, ANOVA, Scheffé test, Pearson's correlation coefficient analysis, and Hayes Process Macro Model 4 (to test the mediating effect). Results COVID-19 stress was positively associated with burnout (r=.28, p<.001) and social responsibility (r=.22, p=.002). Social responsibility was negatively associated with burnout (r=-.31, p<.001). Furthermore, the mediation analysis indicated that social responsibility mediated the relationship between COVID-19 stress and burnout. Conclusion According to the results, the impact of COVID-19 stress on the burnout was mediated by social responsibility. Therefore, to prevent the burnout from COVID-19 of nurses, developing educational programs to enhance social responsibility are recommended.
Purpose This study aimed to identify the factors that affect post-traumatic growth among frontline nurses during a COVID-19 pandemic.
Methods: This study included 187 nurses working in nationally designated infectious disease hospitals as participants. Data were collected from January 11 to March 2, 2021 using structured questionnaires. Independent t-tests, one-way ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficients, and hierarchical multiple regressions were performed to examine influencing factors of post-traumatic growth.
Results: Posst-traumatic growth was positively correlated with traumatic event experience (r=.26, p<.001), post-traumatic stress (r=.32, p<.001), supervisor support (r=.39, p<.001), and colleague support (r=.36, p<.001). Factors affecting post-traumatic growth were emotional support of supervisors (β=.76, p<.001) and evaluative support of colleagues (β=.46, p<.018). Overall, approximately 40.0% of the variability in post-traumatic growth was explained by these two variables.
Conclusion: To increase emotional support of supervisors and evaluative support of colleagues, the most influential factors for post-traumatic growth of frontline nurses who fought against COVID-19, a positive culture must be established. This includes horizontal communication, a safe working environment, and securing of appropriate nurse to patient ratio.

Purpose This study was to identify how a nursing management practicum was operated during the COVID-19 pandemic in Korea.
Methods: This study surveyed instructors teaching the nursing management practicum with a questionnaire covering five domains and 42 items. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and content analysis.
Results: The practicum was performed mainly by mixed methods (40.8% and 38.5%), in hospitals only (30.8% and 60.4%), online only (19.8% and 1.1%) in 2020 and 2021, respectively. The mixed methods were most frequently used for instructor teaching and conferences (43.9% and 58.3%). and the average teaching time per week was 9.40 and 8.69 hours per week, respectively. Taking charge in one to three core nursing skill items, 87.8% and 90.1% of the respondents each year performed face to face evaluation for the skills. Four to six out of 12 POs were covered by 58.2% and 54.9% of the participants, respectively, in 2020 and 2021. The greatest difficulty under the pandemic was securing students’ hospital assignments.
Conclusion: The nursing management practicum needs to adopt various digital technologies, and create new education models including hybrid ones combining both contact and untact methods to improve the educational effect for the post COVID-19 era.

Purpose This study aimed to explore the nursing management experience of Korean nurse managers during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.
Methods: This exploratory qualitative study used individual semi-structured interviews. Data were collected from 10 nurse managers working in tertiary general hospitals in Korea from October 2020 to September 2021. Thematic analysis methods were employed to analyze interview transcripts.
Results: The following four themes were derived: difficulty due to an unexpected and sudden disaster, being the center with a sense of calling and responding resolutely, gratitude toward health workers who work and endure together, and striving and rising to the challenge of preparing for future infection.
Conclusion: During the COVID-19 pandemic, Korean nurse managers made an effort to overcome the crisis based on the sense of calling, despite many changes and challenges. Furthermore, managers expressed their gratitude to the department members working together, and they confirmed the need for system improvement to prepare for upcoming epidemics.

Purpose This study analyzed news titles related to nurses in Korea before and after the Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID 19) pandemic, and aimed to identify the implications of media reports.
Methods: Data from January 2019 to December 2020 were collected from BIGKINDS regarding Korean nurses. Text mining and CONCOR analysis were conducted on the top 30 keywords using TEXTOM and Ucinet 6.
Results: From the findings of this study, keywords were related to Taewom and Newborn death in 2019. Additionally, because of COVID-19 and the controversy over the encouragement of President Moon Jae-in, Taewom was included in 2020. Using CONCOR analysis, 6 clusters (characteristics and results of major incidents, the issue related target, Newborn abuse, Taewom, drugs, nursing education) were generated in 2019, and 6 clusters (emergency room, hero, controversy, Taewom, COVID-19, hospital infection) were generated in 2020.
Conclusion: Before and after the COVID-19 pandemic, most of the news headlines of nurses consisted of negative keywords, while there were few positive news headlines. In order to improve the image of nurses, it is necessary to continuously analyze media trends and establish strategies accordingly.

Purpose This study was explored the current nursing issues in the COVID-19 era by analyzing newspaper articles.
Methods: The search term “nurse” was used to collect newspaper articles from 2020. Pre-processing and semantic network analysis and topic group clustering were conducted using the NetMiner program to analyze the collected articles.
Results: A total of 256 articles were identified, and four topics were extracted. The core keywords were “medical care”, “hospital”, “COVID-19” and “medical workforce”. The extracted topics were “work environment related to response to infectious diseases”, “utilization of nursing resources”, “excessive nursing work”, and “shortage of nursing workforce”.
Conclusion: Our findings provide useful information for understanding social perspectives of critical nursing issues in the COVID-19 era. Most of the extracted topics are the actual problems that nurses have faced for a long time. Now, nurses must proactively address current nursing issues to respond to national disasters and provide quality nursing care.

Purpose This study aimed to explore nurses’ experience in caring for COVID-19 patients.
Methods: A total of 10 nurses working in a COVID-19 ward of a public hospital in South Korea were recruited using purposeful sampling. Individual telephone interviews were conducted and then transcribed verbatim. Data were analyzed using qualitative content analysis.
Results: Two categories of nurses’ experience in caring for COVID-19 patients emerged; “unstable psychological status” and “adaptation and self-esteem”. “Shortage of staff due to the increase in infected people”, “poor environment due to the urgent construction of a COVID-19 ward”, “unstable operating system”, and “excessive demands and verbal abuse from patients” were “obstacles”, while “cooperation and consideration between colleagues” and “interest and support from the manager” were found to be “sources to boost morale” for nurses in caring for COVID-19 patients.
Conclusion: This study can be fundamental data for a deeper understanding of the experiences and challenges faced by frontline nurses caring for COVID-19 patients. It is necessary to provide psychological support for nurses and establish a well-structured nursing care system in order to fight a pandemic such as COVID-19.

Purpose This study aimed to explore the factors influencing the infection control performance of nurses working in comprehensive nursing care service wards during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.
Methods: Data were collected from 107 nurses working in the comprehensive nursing care service unit at four general hospitals from March 15 to April 3, 2021. Factors influencing infection control performance were analyzed using hierarchical multiple regression analysis.
Results: Awareness of importance (β=.55), surgical ward (β=.29), and infection control organizational culture (β=.25) were the factors affecting the infection control performance of nurses working in comprehensive nursing care service wards. The total explanatory power was 46%.
Conclusion: Nurses must establish a positive infection control organizational culture as leaders in team leaders to enhance the infection control performance of nurses working in comprehensive nursing care service wardss. Moreover, the awareness of the risks of COVID-19 and ways to use the defense environment more efficiently should be strengthened.

Purpose This study aimed to define and clarify the concept of colleague solidarity experienced by nurses during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Methods: A hybrid model method was used to investigate the dimensions, attributes, and definitions of the concept. In the theoretical phase, 20 articles selected through literature review by including nursing and related disciplines were analyzed. For the fieldwork phase, in-depth interviews were conducted with nine nurses who took care of infected patients with COVID-19 at Infectious Diseases Specialized Hospital.
Results: The dimensions identified were consistently observed in the field phase, however, more attributes were found newly from the fieldwork phase. In the final phase, the concept of colleague solidarity among the nurses was found to have three dimensions with nine attributes. The interaction dimension had four attributes as voluntary support, mutual respect, open communication, and virtuous circle. The motivation dimension had two attributes of sense of communion and calling. Lastly, the relationship dimension had three attributes of unity, mutually equal relationship, and comradeship.
Conclusions: This study is meaningful in observing how the concept of colleague solidarity, which is relatively unfamiliar to domestic nurses, appears in the clinical field during a national crisis and analyzing the concept.

PURPOSE To implement evidence-based nursing, it is important to know where and how to find the best available evidence. This study was conducted to identify the results of a search from Ovid MEDLINE and to compare the results from Ovid MEDLINE with those from PubMed MEDLINE. METHODS Four different approaches via Ovid MEDLINE were used to search for guidelines on preventing catheter-associated urinary tract infections. Outcomes of this study were the number of records and relevant literature, and the sensitivity and precision of the search methods via Ovid MEDLINE. RESULTS The number of retrieved items ranged 23 to 6,005 and that of relevant studies, 5 to 8 of 8. Simple searches resulted in the highest sensitivity of 100.0%. When using MeSH terms and limits feature, the precision was highest (21.7%) among four approaches for literature searches. Simple searches in Ovid had higher sensitivity and lower precision than those in PubMed. CONCLUSION Simple searches in Ovid may be inefficient for busy clinicians compared to PubMed. However, to ensure a comprehensive and systematic literature search, using Ovid MEDLINE in addition to PubMed is recommended.
