Purpose This study examined factors influencing patient safety nursing activities in integrated nursing care units. Methods: A survey was conducted with 134 nurses from hospitals (100~300 beds) in Busan using self-administered questionnaires (August 17–September 15, 2024). Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation, and multiple regression analysis. Results: The mean score for patient safety nursing activities was 4.31±0.55. Positive correlations were found with grit, teamwork, communication, and patient safety culture awareness. The predictor variables explained 46.0% of the variance in patient safety nursing activities. Significant factors included communication (β=.31, p=.032) and leadership (β=.29, p=.035) within teamwork, incident reporting frequency (β=.24, p<.001) within patient safety culture awareness, and experience in patient safety education (β=.17, p=.018). Conclusion: The findings of this study highlight the importance of enhancing teamwork, particularly in leadership and communication, and creating a safety culture that promotes incident reporting and education to strengthen patient safety nursing practices. Improving patient safety training, developing systematic evaluation and feedback mechanisms, and establishing structured support systems through campaigns and workshops will boost staff involvement and elevate the quality of patient safety practices.
Purpose This study aimed to identify the effects of shared leadership, communication skills, and team effectiveness, as perceived by nurses and nursing assistants in comprehensive nursing service units.
Methods A cross-sectional research design was adopted, and the sample included 306 nurses, nurse assistants, and caregivers working in nine hospitals with fewer than 500 beds in two South Korean cities. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-tests, ANOVA, Pearson’s correlation coefficient, and four-step hierarchical regression analysis.
Results The factors influencing team effectiveness in the hierarchal multiple regression analysis were shared leadership (β=.57, p<.001) and communication skills (β=.18, p<.001). These factors explained 49% of the total variance.
Conclusion To enhance team effectiveness in compressive nursing service units, educational programs focusing on shared leadership and communication skills among nurses, nursing assistants, and caregivers must be developed.
Purpose This study aimed to explore the influence of teamwork and grit on job adaptation and intention to remain among advanced beginner nurses. Methods A cross-sectional descriptive research design employing a survey method was used. The study involved 203 advanced beginner nurses with 13~36 months of experience working at a tertiary hospital. Collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, independent t-tests, one-way ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and hierarchical regression analysis. Results Job adaptation positively correlated with teamwork (r=.58, p<.001) and grit (r=.65, p<.001). Intention to remain was also positively correlated with teamwork (r=.32, p<.001) and grit (r=.59, p<.001). A hierarchical multiple regression model including control variables, teamwork, and grit accounted for 64% of the factors influencing job adaptation. Another hierarchical multiple regression model, incorporating control variables, teamwork, and grit, explained 44% of the factors influencing the intention to remain. Among the related factors, grit emerged as the most influential in regarding job adaption and intention to remain. Conclusion These findings underscore the importance of establishing a support system to bolster grit, enhancing adaptation to the job and fostering intention to remain among advanced beginner nurses.
Purpose This study aimed to identify the factors influencing job satisfaction among nurses working in integrated nursing care wards. Methods The study participants were 196 nurses working in integrated nursing care wards at four general hospitals and one tertiary hospital. Data were collected using structured questionnaires from April 11 to 25, 2022, through an online survey. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson correlation, and stepwise multiple regression with SPSS/WIN 26.0. Results The factors influencing job satisfaction of participants were team structure (β=.32, p<.001), role conflict regarding nursing practice (β=-.24, p<.001), mutual support (β=.23, p<.001), master's degree or higher(β=.16, p=.004), and spousal presence (β=.15, p=.005). Conclusion The findings of this study suggest that the tasks and roles of team members should be clarified, and a supportive team culture of mutual cooperation should be fostered to improve the job satisfaction of nurses working in the integrated nursing ward. In addition, it is necessary to reduce role conflict by providing support focused on allocating tasks that can strengthen the role of professional nurses.

Purpose This study aimed to investigate the influences of teamwork and job burnout on patient safety management activities (PSMA) among operating room nurses.
Methods: We collected cross-sectional data from 144 operating room nurses with at least 1 year of clinical experience. Teamwork had five subscales (team structure, leadership, situation monitoring, mutual support, and communication) and burnout had two subscales (exhaustion and disengagement). We used descriptive statistics, t-tests, analysis of variance, Pearson’s correlation coefficients, and multiple linear regression.
Results: PSMA had significant positive correlations with all subscales of teamwork and had a significant negative correlation with disengagement. Multiple regression analysis revealed that gender, clinical career in operating room, number of patient safety education, accreditation evaluation experience, team structure, and situation monitoring were associated with PSMA. Specifically, we found significant positive associations of team structure (β=.31, p<.001) and situation monitoring (β=.23, p=.039) with PSMA. Disengagement was not associated with PSMA after adjusting for confounders despite a significant correlation.
Conclusion: To improve operating room nurses’ PSMA, it is important to improve their awareness of the team structure and their ability to monitor the operating room situation.

Purpose This study aimed to identify the mediating effects of team trust on the relationship between the authentic leadership of the nursing unit manager as perceived by the nurses and the nurses’ organizational citizenship behavior (OCB).
Methods: Data were collected from 276 nurses working over six months at a university hospital. The research model was designed based on the PROCESS Macro model 4 and analyzed using the SPSS 26.0 program.
Results: The results show that authentic leadership and team trust had strong correlations with nurses’ organizational citizenship behavior. Nursing unit managers’ authentic leadership had a direct effect on team trust and organizational citizenship behavior. Team trust had a direct effect on organizational citizenship behavior. There was a mediation effect of team trust between authentic leadership and the organizational citizenship behavior of nurses.
Conclusion: To increase team trust in nursing units, the institution should provide systematic support such as education and training program to enhance the authentic leadership of nursing unit managers.

Purpose This study was aimed to identify the effects of professional autonomy and teamwork on clinical performance to improve the clinical performance of tertiary hospital nurses.
Methods: Data were collected from June 1 to June 30, 2017 and a total of 172 nurses from three tertiary hospitals participated in this study. The collected data were analyzed with descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Scheffé test, Pearson’s correlation and stepwise multiple regression analysis using SPSS 25.0.
Results: Clinical performance showed a statistical difference depending on the number of education session for competency, and it showed a positive correlation with professional autonomy and teamwork. The factors affecting the clinical performance of the tertiary hospital nurses included in teamwork (β=.40, p<.001), professional autonomy (β=.27, p<.001). These factors accounted for 31% of clinical performance (p<.001).
Conclusion: It is important to find ways to improve clinical performance of tertiary hospital nurses. Furthermore, there is a need to include continuous and systemic education programs for professional autonomy and suitable programs to elevate teamwork.

Purpose The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of shared leadership and vertical leadership on team satisfaction, team commitment, and team performance of nurses.
Methods: This study was a descriptive survey study. The participants in this study were 165 nurses working at a general hospital located in Gyeonggi-do, Korea.
Data were collected from March 9 to April 12, 2018 using a structured questionnaire and analyzed with the SPSS/WIN program.
Results: Shared leadership and vertical leadership were found to have a positive correlation with the nurse's team satisfaction, team commitment, and team performance. Empowering leadership behavior, one of the sub-factors of shared leadership, had a positive effect on team satisfaction (β=.25, p=.003), team commitment (β=.32, p<.001), and team performance (β=.25, p=.004). Empowering leadership behavior, one of the sub-factors of vertical leadership, had a positive effect on team performance (β=.32, p=.023).
Conclusion: These results show that the team effect of shared leadership is better than that of vertical leadership. It can be concluded that empowering leadership behavior is important in improving the team performance of nurses. Therefore, hospitals and nursing managers should strive to develop the enhanced empowering leadership behavior programs for nurses.

Purpose The purpose of this study was to identify the work activities of nurse-led rapid response teams (RRT).
Methods: For this study a methodological approach was used to identify work activities for nurse-led RRT. The study was conducted in two stages. The first step was to analyze the work activities of domestic nurse-led RRTs using the interview method, and then develop a questionnaire based on the results of the interviews. As a second step, field surveys were conducted by nurse-led RRT nurses to investigate importance and performance based on the developed questionnaire.
Results: Fifty-eight work activities were identified for nurse-led RRTs in the following nine core areas: advanced nursing practice, education, counseling, consultation, collaboration, ethical decision-making, research, evidence-based practice, and leadership.
Conclusion: The identified work activities for nurse-led RRTs will be used as basic data in nurse-led RRTs job description, developing job standards and can also serve as basic data for developing a nurse-led RRT educational curriculum. The results of this study suggest that follow-up research is needed to develop job standards based on the identified nurse-led RRT's work activities.

Purpose This study was conducted to test a structural model for patient safety culture of clinical nurses focusing on organizational policy and interpersonal factors.
Methods: A descriptive structural equation model design was used. Participates in this study were 385 clinical nurses. The variables of safety management system, authentic leadership, team effectiveness, and patient safety culture were measured to test the hypothetical model. SPSS 25.0 and AMOS 21.0 were used to analyze descriptive statistics and path analysis.
Results: The final model fit satisfied goodness-of-fit and all path were significant. Authentic leadership (β=.54, p=<.001) was reported as the most influencing factor, followed by team effectiveness (β=.24, p<.001) and safety management system (β=.21, p<.001). Safety management system (β=.38, p=.002) and authentic leadership (β=.12, p=.002) had indirect effects on patient safety culture as well.
Conclusion: The findings of this study show the importance of authentic leadership, team effectiveness, and safety management system to develop patient safety culture. The health care organization should develop the programs to increase these influencing factors.

Purpose This study was performed to compare the perceived level of trust, collaboration, and teamwork about other healthcare personnel, professionals and assistants between nurses who work on integrated nursing care service wards and general wards. Methods Participants were 216 nurses working on integrated nursing care service wards and general wards of 5 general hospitals located in Kyeongido and Kyeongsangbuk-do (integrated nursing wards: 109, general wards: 107). Data were collected using structured questionnaires and analyzed using x 2 test, two sample independent t-test and Multivariate Analysis of Covariance (MANCOVA) with SPSS/WIN 23.0 programs. In particular, MANCOVA was conducted after controlling two independent variable covariants which are marital status (p=.045) and work department (p=.022) which had significant differences for both groups and three dependent variables which is trust, collaboration, and teamwork that highly correlated. Results There were significant differences in the dependent variables of trust (p=.001), collaboration (p=.014), and teamwork (p<.001) between the two groups of nurses. The mean scores for trust, collaboration, and teamwork with other healthcare personnel as perceived by nurses working on integrated nursing care service wards were significantly lower than that of nurses on general wards. Conclusion These findings show that strategies are needed to strengthen the trust, collaboration, and teamwork among nurses working on integrated nursing care service wards and other healthcare personnel.

PURPOSE The purpose of this study was to examine the relationships of job stress, team cohesion, organizational justice and workplace bullying among Korean general hospitals nurses. METHODS During December 2016 and January, 2017, a survey of 198 nurses was done using structured self-administered questionnaires. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, one way ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficients and multiple linear regression analysis. RESULTS The prevalence of bullying was 12.1%. The results of the multiple linear regression analysis revealed that task cohesion (β=−.20, p=.040) as a sub-factor of team cohesion and job stress (β=.19, p=.047) were predictive of workplace bullying (Adj. R²=.11, p < .001). CONCLUSION These results suggest that team cohesion and job stress are associated with workplace bullying by nurses. Building a well-organized management plan which reduces job stress and promotes team cohesion is recommended for the registered nurses.

PURPOSE The purpose of this study was to develop a Team Effectiveness Scale for Nursing Units (TES-NU) and verify validity and reliability of the developed scale. METHODS A preliminary 69 item version of the TES-NU was developed through in-depth interviews. The draft scale was developed using 65 items selected following content validity evaluation. Finally, thirty items with response options on a 5-point Likert scale were selected based on internal consistency reliability and construct validity. Subsequently, convergent validity of the TES-NU was verified. RESULTS Six factors, namely, leadership of the head nurse, cohesion, job satisfaction, competency of nurses, productivity, and coordination were identified. These factors explained 64.6% of the total variance. The TES-NU's Cronbach's α for the total scale was .94. The correlation coefficient between the scores of the TES-NU and Ahn's Team Effectiveness scale was .59. CONCLUSION Results show that the TES-NU developed in this study has good reliability and validity. Therefore, this TES-NU is recommended as a useful tool for managing team effectiveness for nursing units.

PURPOSE The purpose of this study was to analyze literature related to nursing team effectiveness and to summarize the definition variables included, measurement tools, and findings. Basic data on operation and research for team effectiveness in nursing units was sought. METHODS A literature search was performed to identify all studies published between 2003 and 2016 from periodicals indexed in PUBMED, CINAHL, SCIENCE DIRECT, RISS, KISS, and NAL databases. The following keywords were used in the search: ‘team effectiveness’, ‘nurse’, ‘nursing’, and ‘hospital’. Ten studies were analyzed. RESULTS The analysis included domestic and international literature on nursing team effectiveness. The foreign literature included studies of various organizations including nurses, use of various research tools, leadership programs and/or new nursing delivery systems. In the Korean studies, most of the research on team effectiveness surveyed nurses on team satisfaction, team commitment, and team performance in general nursing units, operating rooms, and intensive care units. CONCLUSION The findings show the necessity to develop a definition of team effectiveness that can be accepted comprehensively in nursing organizations in Korea. The definition should reflect team effectiveness that includes all cooperating units not only nurses of the nursing unit but also all other related health care teams.

PURPOSE The purpose of this study was to investigate the association between self-leadership, team trust, organizational commitment and identify the influencing factors on organizational commitment. METHODS The subjects in the study were 296 conveniently selected general nurses at 2 general hospitals in Chungbuk Province. The measurements included the self-leadership, organizational trust inventory (OTI), and organizational commitment. RESULTS The mean score for self-leadership was 3.40, the mean score for OTI was 3.61, and the mean score for organizational commitment was 3.07. There were significant correlations among self-leadership, team trust and organizational commitment. Self-leadership had significant correlation with team trust (r=.25, p<.001). Also, self-leadership (r=.34, p<.001) and team trust (r=.31, p<.001) showed significant correlation with organizational commitment. In stepwise multiple regression analysis, age, self-leadership and team trust were included in the factors affecting organizational commitment of clinical nurses. These variables explained 20% of organizational commitment. CONCLUSION The results confirmed that nurses' self-leadership and team trust affects significant influences on organizational commitment. Accordingly, in order to enhance nurses' organizational commitment, it is necessary to build effective strategies to enhance self-leadership and team trust for nurses. Such strategies will be able to improve the goal achievement of nursing unit.

PURPOSE The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of patient safety culture and perceived teamwork on the safety control of nurses. METHODS This study was conducted as a descriptive cross-sectional survey with 141 nurses who worked in a tertiary hospital with over 1,000 beds in S city, Gyeonggi province. Data were collected using structured questionnaires from July 20, to July, 31, 2015. RESULTS The average work period for nurses participating in the research was 8.84 years. The perceived teamwork and patient safety culture were positively correlated with safety control. The regression model with patient safety culture, perceived teamwork and clinical career against safety control was statistically significant (F=10.16, p<.001). This model also explained 37.1% of safety control (Adj. R2=.37). Especially, communication (β=.27, p=.023) of patient safety culture, clinical career (β=.26, p<.001), mutual support (β=.24, p=.042), and team leadership (β=.24, p=.018) in perceived teamwork were identified as factors influencing safety control. CONCLUSION The findings of this study imply that a broad approach including teamwork and patient safety culture should be considered to improve the safety control for nurses.

PURPOSE This study was conducted to identify the effects of an action learning based creative problem-solving (CPS) course on problem solving, creativity and team-member exchange in nursing students. METHODS A quasi-experimental study applying a non-equivalent control group pre-post design was employed. Sophomore nursing students (32 in the experimental group and 33 in the control group) were recruited from a university in G-city, Korea. Problem solving, creativity and team-member exchange were measured for the pretest and posttest using self-report questionnaires. Kolmogorov-Smirnov test, Chi-square, Fisher's exact test, t-test, and ANCOVA with SPSS/Win 20.0 program were used to analyze the data. RESULTS The scores for problem solving, creativity and team-member exchange in the experimental group were significantly higher than those of the control group. CONCLUSION Results of this study indicate that an action learning based CPS course is an effective teaching method to improve nursing students' competencies. In the future longitudinal studies are needed to assess the long term effects of the course.

PURPOSE The purpose of this study was to identify hospital nurses' recognition of the team system and the effectiveness of the team system as an organizational structure. METHODS A self-report questionnaire was used to collect data from 247 general hospital nurses during 4 months in 2013. Analysis was done using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficients and factor analysis with SPSS 18.0. program. RESULTS There was no significant difference in nurses' recognition of team structure (t=2.06, p=.153) or effect of team structure (t=0.36, p=.549) according to use of team system. In hospitals with a team system, there were positive correlations between recognition of the effect of the team system and age (r=.25, p=.033), and total clinical career (r=.26, p=.012). In hospitals not using a team system, nurses' recognition of team structure as an organizational system (r=.31, p<.001), nurses' recognition of team structure, total (r=.30 p<.001) correlated significantly with the effects of team system. CONCLUSION Results of this study provide a retrospection view of the team system in nursing organizational systems. The nursing team system's ultimate goal needs to be confirmed for complementary nursing care. Also, more studies on nurses' perceptions of, and effectiveness of the team system are necessary.
PURPOSE The purpose of this study was to identify effects of action learning approaches on learning outcomes of students taking nursing management courses. METHODS The questionnaire surveys were completed between March 2011 and June 2012 by 109 undergraduate seniors in the nursing department of C University. Survey data were obtained 3 times: before, in and after the study of nursing management. The course consisted of lectures and clinical practices. Learning outcomes were measured through problem solving skills, team efficacy, and class satisfaction. Collected data were analyzed using repeated measures ANOVA with the SPSS 20.0 program. RESULTS Scores for problem solving skills (F=13.67, p<.001) and team efficacy (F=4.49, p=.012) showed statistically significant increases after the course. The scores also increased significantly after the lectures for 5 of 9 problem solving skill subscales: analysis skill, divergent thinking, decision making, assessment, feedback, and after the clinical practices for 2 subscales: divergent thinking, and execution and risk taking. Class satisfaction score also increased after both the lectures and the clinical practices. CONCLUSION The findings from this study suggest that an action learning approaches for nursing management courses would be a useful teaching and learning method to achieve learning outcomes.
