Purpose The study aims to confirm the mediating effect of nursing professional pride in the relationship between nursing practice environment, nursing performance, and retention intention. Methods A descriptive cross-sectional survey was conducted from December 13 to 31, 2021, involving 127 nurses. The following statistical analysis was conducted: t-test, ANOVA, Scheffé test, Pearson's correlation coefficient analysis, and Hayes Process Macro Model 4 (to test the mediating effect). Results Nursing practice environment showed a significant positive correlation with nursing performance, retention intention, and nursing professional pride. Nursing practice performance showed a positive correlation with retention intention and nursing professional pride, and retention intention showed a significant positive correlation with nursing professional pride. The mediating effect of nursing professional pride was found in the effect of nurses' nursing practice environment on their retention intention. In addition, the mediating effect of nursing professional pride was found in the effect of nurses' nursing practice performance on their retention intention. Conclusion Through this study, it was confirmed that nursing professional pride is a major A factor affecting retention intention in the hospital. Therefore, in order to increase nurses' retention intention to remain in Hospital, the basis of basic data was presented for strategy development.
Purpose This qualitative study explored nurses' experiences in selecting hospitals within a dual labor market framework. Methods Focus group interviews were conducted with 18 general nurses, divided into three groups of six, each representing both large and medium-sized hospitals. Results The analysis revealed two themes, four categories, and nine subcategories, highlighting differences between large and medium-sized hospitals. Nurses who choose large hospitals prioritized "professional development" but faced "struggles to maintain professional identity" while those selecting medium-sized hospitals sought "stability and accessibility" but experienced "crisis of professional identity." Conclusion: This study highlights significant differences in the factors influencing nurses' hospital choices based on hospital size. These findings provide foundational data for establishing the Enforcement Decree and Rules of the Nursing Act, emphasizing the importance of developing legal measures to strengthen nurses' professional identity and promote a balanced and sustainable nursing labor market.
Purpose This study examined the impact of professional Quality of life (QoL) on turnover intention among general hospital nurses using linear and nonlinear analytical techniques. Methods Data were collected from 159 general hospital nurses and analyzed using SPSS, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficients, multiple linear regression, and nonlinear machine learning models (Bootstrap Forest and Boosted Tree). Results Significant correlations were observed between turnover intention and both compassion satisfaction (r=-.26, p<.001) and burnout (r=.27, p=.001). Compassion satisfaction, burnout, and compassion fatigue were identified as the key variables influencing turnover intention. The explanatory power of multiple linear regression analysis was 6.9%, whereas the nonlinear machine learning models demonstrated an explanatory power of 50.5% for Bootstrap Forest and 45.1% for Boosted Tree. Conclusion Continuous investment in human resource management, within nursing organizations, is essential to promote the long-term retention of general hospital nurses. This investment should focus on enhancing compassion satisfaction and reducing burnout and compassion fatigue by fostering a sense of vocation and positive job satisfaction.
Purpose This study aimed to analyze how professional nursing intuition is acquired and develop a corresponding theory. Methods This qualitative study used the grounded theory method proposed by Strauss and Corbin (1998). Results Through axial coding, conflict was identified as the causal condition directly leading to the establishment of ‘me’ as a professional nurse, the central phenomenon. Personal competence, educational needs, and work environment were revealed as the contextual conditions. Social recognition, autonomy, and professionalism were the mediating conditions. The actions and interactions were divided into indifference-realistic and compromise-selfdirected. Dissatisfaction-mechanical, ambivalence -technical, and self-actualization-qualitative and independent nursing were derived. Through selective coding, the core category was derived as ‘becoming a nurse is desirable for myself and others.’ Conclusion: To meet the contemporary need for nurses with professional intuition. It was confirmed that nurses must demonstrate self-will and make continuous efforts to establish ‘me’ as professional nurses. To motivate nurses to acquire professional intuition, measures for social and institutional improvement should be developed to enhance the nursing education curriculum, work environment, autonomy, and professionalism.
Purpose This study aimed to examine the mediating role of nursing professionalism in the relationship between critical thinking disposition and medication safety competency among peri-anesthesia nurses. Methods Data were collected from 128 peri-anesthesia nurses with at least six months of experience in recovery-related departments across medical institutions nationwide. The analysis was conducted using IBM SPSS Statistics for Windows, version 24.0, including descriptive statistics, t-tests, one-way ANOVA, Scheffé tests, Pearson’s correlation coefficients, stepwise multiple regression, and the SPSS Process Macro. Results Medication safety competency showed a significant positive correlation with critical thinking disposition (r=.79, p<.001) and nursing professionalism (r=.80, p<.001).
Similarly, critical thinking disposition was positively correlated with nursing professionalism (r=.78, p<.001). Nursing professionalism was identified as a partial mediator in the relationship between critical thinking disposition and medication safety competency, with a 95% confidence interval of .11 to .63. Conclusion Critical thinking disposition significantly enhances medication safety competency, with nursing professionalism serving as a partial mediator.
These findings underscore the importance of developing targeted educational programs to foster critical thinking skills and nursing professionalism, ultimately improving medication safety competency among peri-anesthesia nurses.
Purpose This correlation study was designed to understand clinical nurses' political interest, nursing professionalism, and intention to participate in politics, as well as the impact of political interest and nursing professionalism on intention to political participation. Method A total of 187 clinical nurses from a general hospital in Seoul were considered for this study. The collected data were analyzed using SPSS/WIN 24.0, which included descriptive statistics, t-tests, analysis of variance (ANOVA), multiple regression analysis, and Scheffé’s test. Results Political interest (β=.46, p<.001), nursing professionalism (β=.17, p=.007), manager or higher (β=.19, p=.018), and age under 24 years of age (β=.14, p=.038) were all statistically significant predictors of political participation. The explanatory power of these factors was 35.6% (R 2 =.39, Adj. R 2 =.36). Conclusion This study revealed the relationship between nursing professionalism and intention to participate in politics, which has not been previously investigated in clinical nurses. This study is significant as it suggests the necessity and direction of future nursing professionalism education programs.
Purpose This study aimed to identify the factors influencing nurses’ perceptions of the disclosure of patient safety incidents in tertiary hospitals. Methods As a descriptive study, data were collected from 315 nurses working in two tertiary hospitals in Busan via structured self-report questionnaires from June 28 to September 3, 2023, through an online survey. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson’s correlation coefficients, and hierarchical regression analysis with SPSS/WIN 27.0. Results Analysis was conducted by controlling for the characteristics of the study participants, which revealed significant differences in their perceptions of the disclosure of patient safety incidents. Ethical nursing competence (β=.30, p<.001) and patient safety culture (β=.15, p=.012) were significant influencing factors on the perception of such disclosure, and the explanatory power of the regression model was 21.0% (F=14.63, p<.001). Conclusion To enhance the aforementioned perception among nurses in tertiary hospitals, healthcare institutions should provide learning opportunities to improve their ethical nursing competence. Fostering an organizational culture that promotes and encourages open disclosure of patient safety incidents is also essential.

Purpose This study aimed to identify factors influencing nursing professionalism among outpatient nurses. Methods Data were collected through a self-evaluation survey of 157 nurses from general and tertiary hospitals in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do, Korea. Data were analyzed using independent t-tests, one-way ANOVA, Importance-Performance Analysis, Pearson correlation coefficients, and multiple regression analysis. Results The mean scores were as follows: importance, 3.29 out of 5; performance, 2.50 out of 4; role conflict, 3.23 out of 5; and nursing professionalism, 3.23 out of 5. There were statistically significant positive correlations between the importance (r=.32, p<.001) and performance (r=.38, p<.001) of nursing activities and professionalism. There were statistically significant negative correlations between role conflict and nursing professionalism (r=-.20, p=.014). Stepwise multiple regression analysis showed that the importance of nursing activities, performance of nursing activities, role conflict, working department, and sex explained 33.0% of outpatient nurses’ professionalism (F=8.66, p<.001). Conclusion The findings indicate educational system about important and highly accomplished tasks would be useful to improve nursing professionalism of outpatient nurses. Furthermore, reducing role conflicts by clearly distinguishing tasks is necessary to increase nursing professionalism.

Purpose This study aimed to examine the levels of professional autonomy, retention intention, and organizational commitment among public hospital nurses, while also investigating the mediating effect of organizational commitment on the relationship between professional autonomy and intention to remain. Methods Data for this study were collected through an online survey conducted from August 5 to August 11, 2022, targeting 230 nurses across three public hospitals within a single region. Data analysis was performed using SPSS/WIN 23.0. Results Organizational commitment fully mediated the relationship between professional autonomy and retention intentions among public hospital nurses. Positive correlations were observed between professional autonomy and retention intention (r=.24, p<.001), organizational commitment and intention to remain (r=.72, p<.001), as well as professional autonomy and retention intention (r=.34, p<.001). Conclusion ; To enhance the retain intention among public hospital nurses, it is imperative to focus on program development and institutional administrative efforts aimed at ensuring professional autonomy and fostering organizational commitment.
Purpose This study explores how nursing professionalism impacts the quality of pediatric nursing care. Specifically, we examine the mediating effects of clinical decision making and pediatric nurse-parent partnership among pediatric nurses. Methods The study involved 133 nurses working in pediatric wards within regions S, C, and D. Data were collected during August 2022 and analyzed using SPSS/WINdows software version 26.0 and PROCESS macro for SPSS version 4.2. Results The double mediating effect of clinical decision making and the pediatric nurse-parent on the relationship between nursing professionalism and the quality of pediatric nursing care was statistically significant. Conclusion Improving nursing professionalism, enhancing clinical decision making, and strengthening the pediatric nurse-parent partnership are valuable strategies for enhancing the quality of pediatric nursing care among such nurses.

Purpose This study aimed to identify the effects of job stress, social support, and infection control fatigue on professional quality of life among nurses in designated coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) hospitals. Methods As a descriptive study, data were collected from 157 nurses working at four designated COVID-19 hospitals employing self-report questionnaires. The data were collected from September 1 to September 30, 2021, and analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson’s correlation coefficients and stepwise multiple regression analysis. Results Job stress, marital status and social support affected compassion satisfaction with the professional quality of life, showing 30% of explanatory power. Job stress and social support affected burnout with the professional quality of life, showing 34% of explanatory power. Infection control fatigue affected secondary traumatic stress in the professional quality of life and the explanatory power was 11%. Conclusion Efforts are needed to improve nurses' professional quality of life by preparing and applying interventions to reduce job stress and improve social support for nurses working in hospitals dedicated to COVID-19. Further, nursing efforts and institutional support will be needed to reduce infection control fatigue.

Purpose The purpose of this study was to develop and validate the Job Competency Scale (JCS) for insurance review nurses working in hospitals. Methods The initial items were generated through a literature review and interviews with 10 experts. The content validity of the items was evaluated through content validity and face validity tests. Data from 301 insurance review nurses working in hospitals were analyzed using item analysis, exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis, and convergent validity; reliability was tested using Cronbach’s ⍺. Results The final JCS consisted of 25 items and five factors (knowledge integration, professional ethics, communication and interpersonal relationship, information literacy and problem solving, self-development) that explained 72.4% of the variance. Confirmatory factor analysis indicated that the theoretical model comprising 25 items satisfied all goodness-of-fit parameters. Convergent validity was confirmed by the Task Performance Scale for insurance review nurses (r=.53, p<.001). The total Cronbach’s ⍺ score for scale was .94. Conclusion The JCS was found to be a reliable and valid instrument that can be used to measure the job competency of insurance review nurses working in hospitals.
Purpose This study aimed to identify the factors influencing job satisfaction among nurses working in integrated nursing care wards. Methods The study participants were 196 nurses working in integrated nursing care wards at four general hospitals and one tertiary hospital. Data were collected using structured questionnaires from April 11 to 25, 2022, through an online survey. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson correlation, and stepwise multiple regression with SPSS/WIN 26.0. Results The factors influencing job satisfaction of participants were team structure (β=.32, p<.001), role conflict regarding nursing practice (β=-.24, p<.001), mutual support (β=.23, p<.001), master's degree or higher(β=.16, p=.004), and spousal presence (β=.15, p=.005). Conclusion The findings of this study suggest that the tasks and roles of team members should be clarified, and a supportive team culture of mutual cooperation should be fostered to improve the job satisfaction of nurses working in the integrated nursing ward. In addition, it is necessary to reduce role conflict by providing support focused on allocating tasks that can strengthen the role of professional nurses.

Purpose This study aimed to assess the influence of job embeddedness, professional self-concept, and work-life balance on clinical nurses’ workplace retention intention. Methods A descriptive cross-sectional survey was conducted from July 27 to August 2, 2022, involving 296 nurses at a university hospital in Seoul. The questionnaire-based data collected were analyzed using t-tests, one-way ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and multiple regression. Results The mean score for intention to stay is 4.92±1.05 out of 8. The mean scores for job embeddedness, professional self-concept, and work-life balance were 2.91±0.48 out of 5, 2.61±0.28 out of 4, and 3.10±0.71 out of 5, respectively. Job embeddedness (β=.17, p=.002) and professional self-concept (β=.42, p<.001) were significantly associated with clinical nurses’ intention to stay in their workplace. Specifically, the “community suitability” subfactor of job embeddedness (β=.16, p=.003) and the “satisfaction” subfactor of professional self-concept (β=.58, p<.001) were significantly related to nurses’ intention to stay. No significant relationship was found between work-life balance and intention to stay. Conclusion Nurses’ job embeddedness and professional self-concept significantly affected their intention to stay. Therefore, fostering community bonding outside the organization and increasing professional satisfaction are suggested to increase clinical nurses’ intentions to stay.

Purpose This descriptive correlation study was designed to identify the job characteristics of advanced practice nurses (APNs) and the degree of nursing professionalism as factors influencing the political competency of APNs.
Additionally, the relationship between these two factors and political competency was analyzed. Methods Data were collected through an online survey of 118 APNs from June 16 to September 16, 2021. The data collected were analyzed using descriptive statistics, a t-test, ANOVA, Scheffé ́’s test, Pearson’s correlation, and a multiple regression analysis using SPSS/WIN 25.0. Results Statistically significant differences were noted in the political competency of APNs based on age, workplace, position, experience as an APN, political education, and political party membership. Furthermore, political competency positively correlated with job characteristics and nursing professionalism. The factors affecting the political competency of APNs included skill variety, workplace, political education, political party membership, and nursing professionalism. Conclusion Findings of this study confirmed the importance of the political competency of APNs. Furthermore, policy efforts to promote independent job development reflecting the job characteristics of APNs and improvement in nursing professionalism are required, and support from professional nursing organizations is needed.
Purpose This study aims to identify the factors-along the lines of fatigue, nursing professionalism, and the work environment-that affect the nursing of COVID-19 patients by nurses at a designated COVID-19 hospital in Korea. Methods Data were collected from March 7 to March 31, 2022 via structured questionnaires submitted by 162 nurses, and analyzed using t-test, ANOVA, Scheffé test, Pearson correlation, and hierarchical regression analysis. Results In model 1, the variables among the general characteristics which significantly affect nursing intention are “6 months to less than 1 year of nursing experience for severe COVID-19 patients” (β=.29, p=.001), “having the volition to provide nursing support for future COVID-19 patients” (β=0.28, p<.001), and the “intention according to the hospital situation”(β=.35, p<.001). In model 2, fatigue (β=-.18, p=.007) and nursing professionalism (β=.43, p<.001) affect nursing intention. The total explanatory power of Model 2 is 47.0% (F=16.93, p<.001, R2 =.47). Conclusion To increase nursing intention for COVID-19 patients, intervention strategies should reduce nurses’ fatigue and introduce competency-strengthening programs as to improve nursing professionalism.

Purpose The study aimed to classify patient safety accident and nursing malpractice types through a content analysis of litigation cases in which nurses were found guilty. Methods Data on malpractice cases were collected from the official website of the Korean judiciary. This analysis was conducted in stages according to the systematic content analysis method. A total of 46 cases consisting of 14 criminal cases and 32 civil cases were selected for analysis, and classified based on the types of safety accident and nursing malpractice. Results Eleven categories and 14 subcategories of accidents were extracted from 71 significant statements. The 11 categories of accidents consisted of falls, medication, burns, treatment, diet, medical equipment, delivery, exams, surgery, infection, and suicide. Five categories and 14 subcategories of nursing malpractice were extracted from 71 significant statements. The five categories of malpractice were as follows: failure to take affirmative action to prevent accidents, monitor, follow guidelines, use equipment properly, and reports. Conclusion These findings highlight the importance of nurses’ independent roles as patients’ safety managers. It can be used as primary data to develop organizational and educational support for nurses seeking to perform their professional roles in ensuring patient safety.

Purpose This study aimed to examine the association of job crafting and perception of patient safety culture with patient safety management activities among hospital nurses.
Methods: This study used a questionnaire that contained the scales of Job Crafting, Patient Safety Culture, and Patient Safety Management Activities. The participants were 211 nurses from two hospitals. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, correlations and simultaneous multiple regression.
Results: The mean scores of the variables were as follows: job crafting, 3.42 out of 5; perception of patient safety culture, 3.77 out of 5; and patient safety management activities, 4.30 out of 5. The items ‘using professional autonomy’ of job crafting and ‘patient safety knowledge/attitude’ and ‘teamwork’ of patient safety culture were associated with the patient safety management activities among nurses.
Conclusion: Nurses’ patient safety knowledge and attitude of striving for patient safety influenced nurses’ patient safety management activities. To enhance nurses’ patient safety knowledge and attitude, hospitals should develop continuously provide education programs. Nurse managers need to strive for supportive teamwork and encourage adherence to patient safety rules. For nurses’ patient safety management activities, nurse education should highlight nursing as a profession that entails autonomous nursing care, which includes responsibility for patient safety.

Purpose The purpose of this study is to clearly classify the roles of Physician assistants and to identify obstacle factors and necessary factors for the operation of the system when they are performing the roles of Physician assistants.
Methods: This is a descriptive research study to analyze the roles of Physician assistants and to understand the expected roles of Physician assistants according to each medical personnel (doctor, nurse, Physician assistants).
Results: The obstacles to work are the lack of legal protection, and unclear work guidelines, and the matter necessary for the operation of the system is the legal protection. There were statistically significant differences in health collection ability, physical examination, drug response monitoring, and reporting in terms of the differences in role expectations considered by medical professionals regarding the roles of Physician assistants.
Conclusion: Physician assistants need to develop various educational programs and materials, cultivate the ability to perform Physician assistants, and develop an advisory role through effective problem-solving between departments and increase the quality and satisfaction of Nursing care.

Purpose This study was aimed to identify the effects of professional autonomy and teamwork on clinical performance to improve the clinical performance of tertiary hospital nurses.
Methods: Data were collected from June 1 to June 30, 2017 and a total of 172 nurses from three tertiary hospitals participated in this study. The collected data were analyzed with descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Scheffé test, Pearson’s correlation and stepwise multiple regression analysis using SPSS 25.0.
Results: Clinical performance showed a statistical difference depending on the number of education session for competency, and it showed a positive correlation with professional autonomy and teamwork. The factors affecting the clinical performance of the tertiary hospital nurses included in teamwork (β=.40, p<.001), professional autonomy (β=.27, p<.001). These factors accounted for 31% of clinical performance (p<.001).
Conclusion: It is important to find ways to improve clinical performance of tertiary hospital nurses. Furthermore, there is a need to include continuous and systemic education programs for professional autonomy and suitable programs to elevate teamwork.

Purpose The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of emotional intelligence, and professional self-concept on compassion competence in psychiatric nurses.
Methods: Participants were 180 psychiatric nurses working on psychiatric wards in university hospitals and psychiatry specialized hospitals. Data analysis was performed using stepwise multiple regression with SPSS/Win 24.0.
Results: Compassion competence significantly differed by age (F=3.31, p=.021), marital status (F=4.12,p=.017), educational background (F=5.46, p=.005), clinical career (F=6.26, p=.002), type of duty (t=-3.01, p=.003), salary (F=3.48, p=.033), current position (F=4.66, p=.011), qualification (t=-2.23, p=.023), compassion education experience (t=3.32, p=.001) and workplace (t=-2.46, p=.015). The compassion competence of psychiatric nurses was positively correlated with professional self-concept (r=.57, p<.001) and emotional intelligence (r=.63, p<.001). The significant predictors of compassion competence were self-emotion appraisal (β=.30, p<.001), professional practice (β=.21, p=.007), use of emotion (β=.19, p=.020), clinical career (β=.18, p=.003), workplace (β=.15, p=.010), communication (β=.12, p=.034) and compassion education experience (β=.11, p=.044). The explanatory power of these factors was 48% of the variance.
Conclusion: In order to enhance the compassion competence of psychiatric nurses, it is important to improve emotional intelligence and strengthen professional self-concept. Political efforts of organizations supporting compassionate nursing practice are also necessary.

Purpose This study aimed to develop an educational informatics system for nursing faculty to improve their competencies in teaching patient safety and to evaluate the effectiveness of the system.
Methods: We developed a system called, ‘Resource to Enhance Safety Competency and Utilize for Education’ (RESCUE) based on the World Health Organization Multi-professional Patient Safety Curriculum Guide, and it was implemented with full-time nursing faculty in 4-year nursing schools. A one-group pretest-posttest design was used for evaluation. A total of 46 nursing faculty members used the system during a 3-month period. The effects of the RESCUE were measured using a survey including patient safety teaching competency, system usability and user satisfaction. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and the Wilcoxon signed-rank test.
Results: After using the RESCUE, participants showed a significant increase in self-confidence in teaching patient safety during lectures (Z=-3.61, p<.001) and practica (Z=-3.14, p=.002).
Conclusion: The developed informatics system was shown to be effective in improving the self-confidence of nursing faculty in teaching patient safety. To effectively integrate patient safety topics into the curriculum, it can be helpful to utilize the educational materials provided in this study with various clinical cases.

Purpose This study was performed to identify levels of self-leadership, professional self-concept, emotional labor and professional quality of life, and investigate the relationship among these variables in hospital nurses.
Methods: This study was a cross-sectional survey. The data were collected from May 20 to June 30, 2019. Participants were 200 nurses working at 4 general hospitals in Korea. Data were analyzed using the SPSS/WIN 25.0 program.
Results: There was a positive relationship between compassion satisfaction and self-leadership, professional self-concept and emotional labor, and a negative relationship between burnout and the other variables in this study. There were positive and negative relationships between secondary traumatic stress and the other variables in this study.
Compassion satisfaction, which is one sub-factors of professional quality of life, was influenced by professional self-concept and emotional labor, and these variables explained 55% of compassion satisfaction. Burnout was only influenced by professional self-concept which explained 47% of burnout. Secondary traumatic stress was influenced by emotional labor and gender which accounted for 5% of secondary traumatic stress.
Conclusion: These results show that professional self-concept is very important in promoting quality of life for nurses. So nurse managers should try to strengthen nurses’ professional self-concepts.

Purpose This study was done to identify the effects of communication competence and nursing professionalism on job performance among home healthcare nurses. Methods The participants were 116 home healthcare nurses working at the hospitals. Data were collected from February 11 to March 22, 2019 and were analyzed with Multiple Regression Analysis. Results The most influential factors on job performance were hospital type (β=-.21, p=.006), communication competence (β=.30, p=.001) and nursing professionalism (β=.32, p<.001) which together explained up to 40% of job performance. Conclusion To improve nursing performance of home healthcare nurses, it is necessary to develop programs and strategies to enhance communication competence and nursing professionalism.

Purpose The purpose of this study was to examine the influences of nursing professionalism and job stress on problem solving ability of community health practitioners. Methods The participants were 167 community health practitioners. Data were collected from December 18 to 28, 2019. Self-report questionnaires were administered to collect data regarding general characteristics, degree of nursing professionalism, job stress, and problem solving ability. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, independent t-test, One-way ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficients and multiple regression analysis. Results The factors influencing the degree of problem solving ability of the community health practitioners were professionalism of nursing (β=.29, p<.001), and interpersonal factors (β=-.25, p=.001). It was found that 15% could explain problem solving ability. Conclusion It is necessary to strengthen the professionalism of nursing and to decrease the interpersonal factors due to job stress for the community health practitioners. The results indicate a need to increase development of educational programs for capacity building of community health practitioners.

Purpose To develop a Korean version of the practice environment scale that can verify the practice environment of advanced practice registered nurses (APRN) by verifying the validity and reliability of the Nurse practitioner's primary care organizational climate questionnaire developed by Poghosyan et al. Methods After translation using a committee approach and an expert group’s verification of the content validity, items were classified as 'professional visibility', 'APRN-administration relations', 'APRN-physician relations', 'independent practice and support' A total of 29 questionnaire items were developed for the four factors. Data were collected from 200 advanced practice registered nurses working at two advanced general hospitals and six general hospitals. Results In the confirmatory factor analysis, CFI, TLI, and RMSR evaluation indices were appropriate except for RMSEA. Partial validity was shown in convergent validity, and discriminant validity. Exploratory factor analysis revealed that the questions were well organized with four factors. Cronbach's ⍺ of the whole instrument was .93. Conclusion As a first attempt to measure the practice environment of the APRN in Korea, the results show that this questionnaire provides basic data for correct role setting and improvement of practice environment. This research will ultimately serve as a basis for cost-effective quality care.

PURPOSE The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of hospital ethical climate and nursing professionalism on patient safety management activity by nurses. METHODS A cross-sectional correlation study design was used. Participants included 142 nurses from two tertiary hospitals in Seoul and Gyunggi-do, South Korea. Data were collected in April and May 2019 using self-report questionnaires and analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficients and multiple liner regression analysis with SPSS/WIN 21.0. RESULTS The patient safety management activity correlated positively with hospital ethical climate (r=.32, p < .001) and nursing professionalism (r=.40, p < .001). The patient safety management activity was the factor that most influenced nursing professionalism and position, explaining 21% of the variance (F=12.06, p < .001). CONCLUSION It is necessary to provide education on professionalism. It is necessary to continuously provide job education and training to nurture competence and quality in professional nurses.

PURPOSE This study was done to identify the relationships among nursing professionalism, nursing work environment, and patient safety activities, and to analyze the factors influencing nurses' patient safety nursing activities. METHODS This descriptive study included 270 nurses from six general hospitals. Questionnaires were used to collect data between August 20 and September 21, 2018, using questionnaires. Analyses included descriptive statistics, t-test, analysis of variance, Pearson correlation coefficient, and stepwise multiple regression, conducted using IBM SPSS/WIN 21.0. RESULTS Mean scores on nursing professionalism, nursing work environment, and patient safety nursing activities were 3.51±0.41, 2.44±0.45, and 4.39±0.50, respectively. The patient safety nursing activities score was positively correlated with subscales of nursing professionalism variable: professional self-concept (r=.15, p=.019), social recognition (r=.10, p=.036), professional identity in nursing (r=.24, p<.001), role of nursing practice (r=.16, p=.012), nursing foundation for quality of care (r=.19, p=.003), and nurse manager's ability (r=.14, p=.031). Patient safety nursing activities were influenced by professional identity in nursing (β=.22, p=.001) and nursing foundation for quality of care (β=.15, p=.001), which explained 8.0% of the variance. CONCLUSION These results suggest that nurse managers should focus on creating an appropriate nursing environment and facilitating nursing professionalism to enhance hospital nurses' patient safety nursing activities.

PURPOSE This study was done to investigate the mediating effect of nursing professionalism on the relationship between nurse's character and organizational commitment of the nurse. METHODS The participants in this study were 170 nurses who had over 3 months of work experience in hospitals in 2 regions of South Korea. Data were collected using self-report questionnaires. Data collection period was from December 15, 2018 to January 15, 2019, Data were analyzed using the IBM SPSS/WIN 25.0 program. RESULTS The significant predictors for organizational commitment of nurses were nursing professionalism (β=.42), total clinical career (β=−.30), monthly income (β=−.27) and clinical career in current hospital (β=−.24). These variables explained 36.0% of the variance in the organizational commitment of nurses. Nursing professionalism was found to have a mediating effect on the relationship between nurses' character and organizational commitment. CONCLUSION These results highlight the importance of nurses' organizational commitment and can be used as meaningful data for intervention research to promote the character of nurses and nursing professionalism.

PURPOSE This study was done to identify the mediating effect of self-efficacy on the relationships between calling and nursing professionalism for nurses in general hospitals. METHODS Participants were 119 nurses in general hospitals. A survey was used and data were collected in April 2018. Data were analyzed using the IBM SPSS/WIN 22.0 program. RESULTS The significant predictors for the nursing professionalism of nurses were self-efficacy (β=.61) and clinical career in current hospital (β=−.21). These variables explained 42% of the variance in nursing professionalism of nurses. Also, self-efficacy had a total mediating effect on the relationship between calling and nursing professionalism. CONCLUSION Findings indicate that calling and self-efficacy are important factors for nursing professionalism of nurses in general hospitals.
